i saw a mint BMW e30 325i on the weekend and decided i wanted one, So i checked the interweb and am amased at the prices being asked for tidy ones, decent 944 s2's ask much less, funny how it goes, (Fancy some 80's german engineering)

BMW owners often overprice their beloved cars in a private sale. Then again so do some Fiat Uno and Ford Escort owners ;)

If you look at the sticky threads I've got a few spare HPi and price checks available for free. If a car is at the right price for it's age, mileage and condition then no reason to not buy if it's within your spend budget.

But do make sure that what the seller calls a full service history is a full service history. A stamped book is worthless without invoices and supporting MoT certificates (if applicable)..

I have a life long hate of the phrases such as 'lovely condition for year', or 'drives lovely for it's age'. (Apart from the simply appalling grammar).

A well serviced and well maintained car should drive equally as well at 200,000 miles as it did at 2000 miles. If it doesn't then walk away unless the price is in accordance with the remedial work you'll have to do.

It pays to phone up ads that are a few weeks old, the owners are generally desparate to sell by then and drop their over priced optimisim below realistic price levels.

Volvo T5's are a veritable bargain at the moment.

yeah, i once won a fiat coupe 20v turbo on ebay, sold with full service historym etc..when i went to pick it up the service history was wrote in pencil, matey got irate because i wouldn't buy it

Still i have just checked out ebay germany and the e30's are expencive there as well

despite recently buying an E39 as an emergency purchase I do think many people selling cars have an outrageously inflated opinion of what their cars are worth on the open market,
