gdgd, yeah i knwo powers out the question, but a good growl would be nice, what induction should i get cause i cant find anything for my car punto, same for even back boxes
It's not my specialist area as my car is standard apart from a custom ECU remap. There's little more to be had as the map alone has given me 192bhp and over 320lbft torque, so it's a quick car by anyone's standards. It's also very, very quiet inside. The remap has made the turbo noise a little more obvious outside but that's it. The remap was done in April 2006 and I've left everything else alone apart from using BP Ultimate Diesel only and the occasional dose of Millers DPS 4 additive.
You could fit a cone filter in place of the airbox - many of these are universal, but you'll have to make minor changes to pipework and find somewhere to mount it securely. You don't want your filter intake cone finding its way into drive belts and pulleys, for example.
Getting a custom exhaust made is not as expensive as you might think. GDS exhausts in Brackley could build you a system for little more than the price of a new one from Fiat.
I will re-iterate though, that you will not gain much, if any, extra torque or performance. Make sure you really want the noise first before parting with money. If you're not certain then perhaps spend the money on audio instead and enjoy the car for different reasons.
Perhaps blow some pennies on a sound deadening kit and make the ICE installation something really special. There's still something appealing about a naturally aspirated diesel engine. They're low stressed, run forever on the smell of an oily rag. And they're dead easy to use around town. Just leave it in third anywhere between 3mph and 43 mph and treat it like an automatic with your left foot tucked under the seat.
As I said before;- NO lag or latency waiting for a turbo to spool up. I use the little 1.9D Seat in this way and it's a pleasant way to get about. It's a bit vocal on the move at higher speeds, and it feels flat out at 85mph (although it isn't) but it's more than bearable.
No, I wouldn't use it by choice for long haul runs but I have done so quite happily when I've had to make a quick trip to North Devon and Sara (wife) has been using my car.
