I'm even choosy who fits tyres after a well know specialist fitted the weights like ears to the outside edge of the wheel! I've never seen that done on a wide alloy wheel before and didn't even think to specify they do it properly putting a weighted sticker on the inner wheel surface!
My mechanics can fit tyres, but won't do 18 inch wheels. So I ended up using the tyre fitter they recommended. I count that as an extension of using my mechanics.
I have a small local garage I use for MOTs and trust them. There are times when I have no time to repair or my back is playing up, so leave it with them. Other than that my youngest daughters boyfriend is good on cars, qualified mechanic and raced cars, he’s done a few little jobs, bonding time!
Apart from the roll cage fabrication (with me helping) and the complete wiring system, the rest is down to me. As I will be the one driving I want to be sure that everything is fitted correctly and torqued up properly. If I am going to die through negligence then it will be my negligence.
