Do you see any advantages of older cars over newer ones?

What about not being paranoid as to where you park it in case someone dents it? I think it is quite nice to have a car you are not overly precious over but are there any other advantages to owning an older car?

I take care of my MG, but the Discovery is purely a family/dog wagon. It still gets washed, cleaned and vacuumed out but is used mostly for the dogs. They have their own area at the back all guarded and lined. Personally an older car, if just seen as a mode of transport and not precious, is treated as an object and not of personal value. I have had 'sheds' for the daily commute, looked after but looked at as a consuamble so if it broke of failed an MOT really badly then it would be sold on or scrapped. Whereas a car that you thought alot of you would go that bit extra to keep it going even if it were uneconomical to do so.

We have an old escort thats used as a runaround, when the gearbox bearings collapsed last year we were going to get rid of it but had a gearbox for gbp40 so thought what the hell as it doesnt have the usual rust problems and had just fitted new pads and discs all round so we kept it. two weeks later the rear wheel bearing went, gbp10 for a new one.
not worried about where its parked and jump in it whereing oily overalls or whatever. also, compared to the scooby much cheaper to run, and can carry a lot more stuff
