Need advise on re trimming and door card....

hi i need some help, i have a bmw e46 and im thinking of re trimming the door cards myself, iv tried looking on the internet for a guide on re trimming door cards with leather or vinyl but every site i find is on really basic doors like the old mini or mk 1 or 2 for escorts, has anyone on here got experience in re trimming

the black trim is my door and the other picture is one i found on the internet which has been modded where the speaker goes, and this is what i want to do to my doors and not the tan trim

Take out the door card then the various bits of trim should come out via screws or nuts. They'll be hidden quite well so look hard and be patient.

Alternatively buy a couple of door cards, re-trim them and swap over.

but what is the best way to remove to old black vinyl trim or do you just put a new layer on top of the old stuff?

It must attach somewhere you can't see from the front (i.e. hidden but visible when you take apart the door card). You could also just put it over the top as long as you don't use something too thick.

i think id prefer to strip the old vinyl trim off first i just wish i could find a descent video on youtube or a write up with pictures on a modern door car and not an old beetle or mini

I would get a couple of door cards to play with. Do the job, take my time then swap them over. Then sell the old ones.

No not yet, i wasn't going to ask on bimmerfest as i find its a waste of time, iv noticed a lot of times on that site if you want to be different nobody wants to help.....

be careful on removing the material as you could use that as a template in which case it's just about cutting the new material to size then fitting it, just use common sense and be careful don't rush when you're cutting new material. have fun, i did when i did it for my mates 205 as an art project lol
