hi guys , i recently brought myself a mk2 driver for my first car ( being 19 cheaper insurance than a gti) and am having trouble with reverse gear , well it dont have one , any ideas ??
howdo.
We might need more info.
Does the gear lever go into the slot for reverse but nothing happens when you release the clutch, or can you not get the lever into the slot at all?
That gave me an idea, you might just need to press down on the gearstick to get through the reverse gate!Ok - and I'm not being funny - but is there a ring on the gearstick you have to pull up before you can get to reverse? Trying to remember what my Bora had.
If you're sure it should be in reverse but isnt then it could well be loose gear linkages. Difficulty getting into slot is usually bent selectors, but if it basically goes into the wrong gear then the linakges are loose, or bushes worn so the stick isnt going where it should. There is a way to realign but it might need a specialist tool.
Do all the other gears line up right? Can you get 5th, all the way to the right?
