Hi,

My name is Chris Wells. I have an interest in all cars however particularly like RWD convertibles with a manual gearbox. My current car is a Nissan Silvia S13 convertible tat I converted to manual as all the factory ones were auto. unfortunately it is in lots of pieces at the moment but I hope to have it back on the road within a month.

So far the cars I have owned include
1968 mini,
1971 Morris 1300 Nomad,
1965 Honda S600,
1970 mini,
1980 ford Escort,
1968 Datsun Fairlady 2000,
1985 Mazda 323 SS,
1989 Mazda MX5,
1991 Ford Falcon Wagon,
1998 Nissan Pulsar,
1988 Nissan Silvia S13 Convertible,
2002 Subaru Outback,

As you can see there are 4 convertibles in the list and all have been RWD, manual and by some coincidence Japanese. I am a fan of British sports cars and would like a Morgan, Triumph or a MGB one day but have been happy with owning a Japanese convertible of some kind or another for 27 of the 34 years I have been driving.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris, it's lovely to meet you. It sounds like you're a real petrolhead and I'm sure you'll fit in just fine on here.

Hope you enjoy your time with us, we are really friendly and always interested to hear your thoughts and views on our many discussion topics and questions.

What's your favourite car then from that pretty impressive list?

Well I actually do more distance commuting on my pushbike than driving cars, so I am part petrol head, part green commuter. However I think that makes me enjoy my cars more as I am not generally using them just to sit in a traffic jam. A normal year for me is about 12,000km of pushbike riding and 8,000km in a car.

Hard to say which one I like the most. The Honda S600 was the most fun to drive, however it was always breaking down and I wouldn't own another one, parts were virtually impossible to get 30 years ago and the car would be off the road for 4 months just waiting for a specific part. I imagine they would be impossible to keep on the road these days unless you had a lot more skill at making your own parts than I do.

The MX5 was probably the best car to drive and I can see why they have sold so many.

The S13 Silvia convertible has been very interesting to own, it is very unique, handy with 4 seats and apart from using a fair bit more petrol feels pretty similar to the MX5 to drive. However it is interesting to own as it is incredibly rare but shares a lot of parts with other Nissans and I have been very lucky get parts I need. S13's are brilliant cars, it is just a pity so many get trashed.

Not sure what my next fun car will be, maybe I will still be driving the S13 in another decade. My next practical car will be turning up in 4 months time. We plan to give the Subaru Outback to my son and buy a RS Skoda Octavia wagon. I have ordered it but have to wait for it to turn up. It should be a good compromise of a car small enough with good economy to keep my wife happy and big enough for me to take to band jobs. Plus they go really well.

Cheers
Chris
