hi everyone 97 A4 1.8T

Hello and a very warm welcome to you, nice to have another Audi owner with us.

A remap is your top mod, around £350 and this will give you another 50bhp or so! I put a panel filter in my 1.8T rather than an induction kit and if you want a decent exhaust look at the offerings from Miltek!;)

Have a read of our Audi forums, form more in depth tips and advice for your 1.8T engine.

hey and welcoem to the site mate

depending on the engine in the A4 - theres quite a few variants of the 1.8t -you can gain anything from 40bhp -60 on a remap. look more to a turbo back exhaust rather than a cat back as the flexipipe and cat are the most restrictive parts

Thanks

Thanks to you all for such a warm welcome. have just been polishing the leather and i must say its coming up rather well!! you know how it is new project n' all.
Your advice has been duly noted so i shall be checking out milltec, the audi forums and the torque parts shop.
cheers:D

Hello and welcome. The 1.8T is a tuner's dream. Very very flexible and they respond superbly to a good ECU remap. Please don't 'box' it, the results are nowhere near as sweet.

bad news im afraid!!!

the story is when i bought the audi(on tuesdsay i might add) the bloke said that i neede to turn the key back in the in ignition a little bit because the starter would still be engaged, thing is i dont think i did this and i broke down about half a mile from my mates house after fitting a turbo smart dump valve, now there was a few lights that came up on the dash firt the abs light then the one on the onboard computer, its the one thats a circle and has a cross in it. there was a bit of smoke and it stinks like a drill that i burnt out a few weeks ago but a hell of a lot stronger has anyone experianced anything like this? it definatly smells electrical and i am hoping to the great turbo god in the sky that its just the starter thats burnt out, any help or advice would be greatly recived.

sticky starters are quite common and only really need cleaned out well.
id be worried about the abs light coming on though. you really need to get the car scanned to see whats caused that.
try leaving the battery disconnected for half an hour and see if it resets the lights at least. - this isnt really a substitute for scanning - as it may be intermittent fault due to the starter sticking . im thinking along the lines of the starter being turned and becoming more like a alternator

the great turbo god answerd my prayers and let it be only the the starter that was burnt out due to the fact that the ignition had not fully returnd therefore keeping the starter engaged, bloody thing stank like a major electrica fire had happend, after breaking down just off the m27 at 7:30 and my mate picking me up an hour later and being a bit peeved i got home at about 8:30.
went to bed and got a call from the local force saying that my car was causing a potential obstruction at 2am this morning to which point i told them that i was picking it up at six am today. so after spending an hour taking the starter off and waiting for the scrappy to open then spending an hour removing one from a car at said scrappy, then a further hour putting it onto my car, with a little bit of swearing and a few scraped knuckles oh and a whole lotta praying to the turbo god it fired up first time!!!! result.
