Hey guys,

Iam excited about joining the site... i have already started moding my car, just a body kit and an exhaust tip. However i am hoping you guys could advice me on what would be a good starting point for engine and performance mods on my Ford focus 1.8 TDCi, and also whether placing larger rims and tyres would solve my ride height problem, as the body kit has lowered the car so much that i keep on catching and scratching it whilst driving.

Thanks

hello sire.

well bigger rims and yres would lift the car,but it will afect the gearing.

but i expect the more knowlegable will be along soon to give you some help.

Hi there mate and welcome to Torque Cars.
First of all get it re-mapped.
How big are your wheels now? Putting bigger wheels may raise the height a little but it will also make the ride alot more bumpier.

Hi and welcome to TorqueCars, good to have you along.

You might be able to get away with stiffer springs and a slightly higher profile tyre. 18's are massive rims and the tyres for these are mega expensive.

A remap would be first on my list as long as your engine is OBDII complient (2001 onwards generally!)

What springs in particular would you suggest waynne?... Also I was already planning to get new tyres, which tyre manufacturer and type you recommend ... Also with the remapping I was wondering whether switchable remaps were the best and whether I should simply browse Internet sites or if there are any sites or places you recommend

Thanks

We have a lot of debates on here about tyres. My top pick for sheer grip and corner feel are Goodyear eagle F1's. However they are a soft compound and wore out very quickly but Goodyear may have revised the formulation. At the Moment I have Dunlop SP Sport Maxx with a similar V groove pattern and these seem to perform very well in the wet and dry and they are not that expensive.

I would look at Biltsein, Koni and Tein for springs but there are other equally good makers out there. Have a look at http://torquecars.potn.com for suitable parts;)

On a diesel I wouldn't bother with a switchable remap, you will get more economy anyway. In petrol engines the switch gives you an economy mode which helps keep the cost down.

I think Dreamscience are the Ford specialists in remaps.
