Hi All

Another Newbie, cool place this, lots of info.

I've done some looking around on here, and read some of the articles. Respect, some really good/ helpful stuff.

Question:

Any one had any experience tuning a Civic 1.5 ILS, or know anyone who has?

Or if anyone has any useful info they can pass on would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Welcome to ToequeCars Aki. Us Civic owners are starting to gang up! No experience tuning my Civic yet...I've gotta save up first! Have you done anything so far? What are your plans?

Cheers mate,

Im the same as you, still trying to get the reddies!!!

Only just purchased the her so nothing done to her yet, apart from a good clean.

The cars' still factory -> nothing done.

Plans are the usual,

Breathing
Handling
Stopping
Sounds

Probly just gonna sort out some rims first, but with that comes the needing to drop her either springs or coilovers.

How bout yours?
What spec you running?

hey and welcome to the site
the civics a lovely car bit thirsty compared to other engines

dont bother with induction kit or sports cat unless your up high in the rev range
i found that normal driving they werent worth it didnt even bother to put the sports cat back on after a mot ( didnt want to chance the emissions with the sports cat on as it was from american different laws ) and when i sold the car i put the airbox ack on with a new filter in place car felt more responsive with that than the induction kit

that was on a 1.4

Cheers man,

that is interesting, didnt know they were that thirsty compared to others.
Did read some of the articles on the site about adding inductions on small engines -> loose power
maybe i'll just work on her setup, and make her look pretty, we'll see.

Cheers!

Whats your Bora like?

My spec is the 1.6 non-vtec (which bugs the hell outta me). No mods yet, but loads planned. I'm currently trying to find out if I can upgrade the engine. I'm looking at a
B18C VTEC. After that I'll have to upgrade the brakes and stick a sports exhaust on. Then I'll start styling it! I'm thinking candy red paint, and 18 inch chrome rims (expensive, but worth it!). Of course I'll put a body kit on, new spoiler and a new hood. Then it'll be time for a crazy system and the interior.

ohh candy red nice ;)

the boras not bad more sedate than the civic lot faster and a bit more thirst averaging 32mpg ( got 18.9 on tues night on a 11 mile run that included around 5-6 mins cooling down and driving nicely for the first 6 until the engine was warmed up again as had been sitting for an hour ) compared to 35 form the civic. waiting until i get some money from HM govt as im owed around £300 get her in for a remap to 215 ish bhp

i felt the civic liked the induction kit up high in the revs (5000+ revs) where as i was driving around the 3500 area, bout 75mph in 5th, there wasnt much cope off the mark the wifes rover 25 pulled away it wasnt until getting high revs and speed up did i catch her back ( did have around 80kgs of audio in the boot like so that didnt help ) think all honda engines have a thirst my 1990 'lude, 2ltr 12v twin carb, was only getting high 20's most of the time only really getting into the 30s on motorway bloody nice to drive thou.

have you thought about an engine change like prince B16 and B18 engines should go in nicely and your looking at taking the power from around 100bhp to between 150 - 200 depending on engine chose

The B18C is 210 bhp. It's from an Integra so the swap shouldn't be too hard. I think as it's gonna cost a lot, I might as well get a good one! Just waiting to see whether my insurance will let me do it! It may be tight with money, but worth it. Gotta make sure I keep some back as well (for both holiday and in case). I can afford the swap itself, its just the insurance!

Plans sound cool, really do like the candy red, seen a couple of civics in it, when finished properly, they look the business, well sweet!

Non-vtec must bug, I’m running a sohc but kicks in at 5700, ain’t had a real feel of her yet. Damn Cameras! Yeah the B18C is a sweet motor, with the right set-up, you can embarrass Turbos, that’s if you want to keep her NA. If not you can get some crazy BHP if you Force induce, will cost a pretty penny though. And like you said insurance cost, running costs, maintenance! It all kills especially if you want to be able to do other things as well.

Where you sourcing your motor form, you gonna do any work on it before you put it in?

The Bora sounds sweet, can get some nice figures too with a simple remap, getting HM govt too cough up can be a pain, hang in there!

What else you done to the Bora then?

I’m not too sure what my mpg figures are like, driving her on and off, around town mostly, like you I’m driving around 3500 as well. Your right though they are nice drives even in stock form.

I have thought about doing an engine swap, would probably go for the B18C motor like Prince, Legendary engine. But again it’s the funding that’s an issue, might leave it a while, add some simple bolton’s to keep me happy if I need it for a while, then will look into making a swap happen.

Thing is though, not too sure on reputable tuners down here in London for sourcing or fitting part/engine. Read some good things from certain mags about various other tuners around the UK, but in-terms of logistics, how far away do I want to travel to work done on her?

I take it the engines out of the Jap version? the car Uk version of int. type R had 197bhp

Getting money of HM aint 2 bad i will see the money within a month of sending the forms back. its that or a quick phone call to say aint doing anything else with cadets till im payed.

just got the alloys of the TT on her and interior light of the W8 passat gives a nice red glow to the interior. sounds were done but have been stripped out to be rebuilt so more compact. was going to order panel filter but had the old one out to check and its near enough spotless so will wait until its a bit more black, looking at getting diverter valve before shes in for a remap to handle the increase in boost.oil change is due on her already. also have looked into the possibility of audi S3 - intake manifold, MAF sensor and injectors along with the K04 turbo maybe then custom remap but im looking to do that in a couple of years if i still have the car as turbos are looking at around £500 then another £4-500 for the custom remap to incorporate everything

ive got the same problem living in lockerbie even if i want a decent remap im looking at around 80 miles to get one. have you thought about sourcing the engine yourself and getting it to a local mechanic, that you trust, to fit it for you ?

Hi Aki, where in london are you? Great place in Fleet that can help where I used to work. They specialise in race prep and tuning Hondas especially type R. They have a team of about 5 type R DC5 race cars there that they run and usually win their calsses at all the national tracks. They are good and not greedy. Let me know if you want any more info.

Bora sounds nice man, some nice touches to her. Well it sounds like you should keep her for a while, you’ve done some work on her, and so you might as well enjoy her.

Yeah that might be an idea to source the engine myself, not looked into doing that yet so will have to find some details. Mechanic shouldn’t be too bad.
Hey Dim,
I’m based in East, any details would be great the outfit sounds good, like they know there stuff. Either post on here or email me onyx99@hotmail.co.uk cheers!

What do run anyway?

I take it the engines out of the Jap version? the car Uk version of int. type R had 197bhp

Yeah it is Jap spec...they always have higher spec. It's just a huge shame my insurance has denied it happening. Instead, I'm gonna prepare my car for the conversion. Upgrade the brakes and exhaust. Maybe look into a few styling changes after that. It all depends on money and insurance. REally gutted about the conversion, seeing as I can afford everything but the insurance. They just said they wouldn't insure me. I did get a quote from Adrian Flux, but I don't wanna shift companies into a policy.

yeah the JDM normally do think the eceptions the old type r think jap version only had 180bhp comared to 197 here

youve got the plan set up like you say get the exhaust on the car and get it as close as you can for the new engine. massivly overhaul the brakes as well then when your current policy is up give adrian flux a call back and see what they cando for you with hopefully an extra years no claims
