engine misfire

Hi my daughter has a problem with her peugeot 206 14 petrol, for a few days there was an intermmitent misfire in the engine, which cleared up after a few miles, last night the misfire was so bad the car hardly moved in any gear, this morning the misfire comes and goes, any ideas on what is the problem??, I am no mechanic so simple wording please, thanks in advance , mike

coil pack could well be on its way out.
have you checked the spark plugs themselves what are they looking like?

you really need to get it on a diagnostic tool and see if it can tell you what cylinder is missfiring. if its just one then move the coilpack to another cylinder and see if the missfire moves as well

Has it been run low on fuel often ?
When was the fuel filter last changed ?
When were plugs last changed ?
Are all of the earth straps around engine bay making a good earth ?

It is quite important to get this resolved as constant misfire will ultimately lead to cat damage
