Build quality improving or not

Do you think the build quality of modern cars is improving or getting worse?

I've noticed that many makers seem to be using cheap looking parts and there are many premium brands breaking down due to cheap imported plastic and electronic parts.
 
In laws have had 2 Focus hatchbacks and now a C Max for 3 weeks and all of them he's complained the door rubbers creak at low speed. Family joke now. Built to a price but he don't understand
 
A friend of mine had a creaky mini. The only trouble I've had with my Audi's were switches and relays!
cars are more reliable generally, when did you last read "starts first time" on a for sale add?
