4wd vs fwd - fascinating

Mate of mine has a 250bhp R32, 4wd. He went to a VW meet this weekend at a raceway and ended up doing a 1/4 mile drag against AMD's 365bhp Scirocco development car, FWD.

Just watched the video of it and the R32 gets its power down so much better than the scirocco in the first half of the drag. By the time they cross the line the Scirocco has just caught up, and crosses the line doing 15mph more than the R32. Obviously a lot faster car in the end but it only did the 1/4 mile a few tenths of a second faster.

Fascinating really.

rearward weight transfer is always going to be a benefit in high powered RWD cars when it comes to starting from stationary.

I always thought the R32 was FWD!

Funny how important traction is when driving competitively. Even a car with over 100 more horsepower can get beaten simply because it can't get the power down.
