Here is a thread for all those why didn't they questions directed at car makers.

Why didn't they put the 1.8T engine the UK version of the Polo?
Why didn't they redo the Ford RS200?

Isn't it the 1.8 T in the Polo GTI? Can't remember which Mk. it is but was out at the same time as the mk.5 golf?

And isn't the 'new' RS2000 simply an RS Focus? As the focus replaced the escort?

But why oh why didn't they just LEAVE THE MINI ALONE. It was perfect how it was, why make it a big, bulky BMW? Grr.

That's an easy one. At heart, the Imprezza is a rally car, and hatchbacks are slightly better at rallying than saloons.

That, and it was the easy way for Subaru to enter the hot hatch market.

Think Mitsubishi did it better though. Saloon and Hatchback versions of the Lancer.

ok - but a hatchback Impreza looks terrible and seems in the hatchback version they have toned things down compared to what Mistubishi is doing. And as Subaru have withdrawn from rallying anyways................ seems a bit if a bizarre decision. Have become disappointed the way they are trying to pander to those who are more likely to use their car to go down to the shops.,

Not even remotely. The new RS is FWD, way overrated and way overpriced.

They should have left the Mini alone though I totally agree. It's not even a Mini any more, just a BMW 0 series. Yawn.

Fair comment, I think it's still a good achievement getting that much BHP in a FWD car though. As for the price, i've no idea how much they go for compared to how much a cossie/rs2000 cost new?

25K ?, with a bit of haggling thats getting into Evo money. RS is a technical masterpiece when it comes to the amount of power going through the front wheels. but it would probably have been cheaper to make it 4WD, which would up the handling too.

what i want to know - why is there not a mondeo cosworth ? theres been one for every other ford saloon car, they could use the 5 cylinder motor from the RS, or the current ST-220 V6, give either one of those to the cosworth guys to tune up and you'd have a great car.

some would say that the ST-220 is the spiritual successor to the RS2000, but its missing the turbocharger, plus its front wheel drive, which just seems wrong for somthing replacing a cossie.

4wd focus rs would have meant completly redesigning the car which wouldnt have been cheap for the amount that will probably sell compared the the FWD versions.

Why didnt they keep the golf R a VR engine rather than drop it down to a blown 4

They were getting more power from the 2.0 than from the V6 (not the VR6).

its supposed to be rather laggy and they do have the lovely 3.6 they could have fitted.
really you could just no buy a gti and pay £3.5k for the turbo upgrade. youll have more power/torque and still have saved around £8k over the price of the R

i speced one up and it was something like £37k. the S3 was cheaper and its the same with an audi badge on it. cupra was alot cheaper but it is FWD rather than haldex 4wd

Polo GTi is a 1.8T - Seen one in the flesh. Lady who works at ChippedUK and put the R36 on the rollers owns one. She's had it remapped too - and apparently it is now completely nuts.
