What do we all use our ICE (or car radios) for?

What's your choice of music, by genre or artist?

Favourite tracks or pieces of all time?

Do you still use the good ole FM radio tuner much these days?

I have to admit that the last few years I've become a bit of a BBC Local Radio or Radio 4 listener. Quite often drive with the thing muted so I can listen to not much at all, my cars don't make exciting sounds really.

Fave tracks: Schumann Piano Concerto Am is in there. Along with some heavyweight classical organ (Mostly JS Bach) stuff. Then you find any number of 1980's ('ere we go again) poppy songs. Don't have a favourite band as such, but there's lots of Steely Dan and Doobie Bros.

All of which is very sad.

So enlighten me with your choice of listening.

Rgds,

P.

I've got an Alpine head unit with a lead connected to my ipod so I have loads of choice whilst driving! Generally I like to listen to hip hop, r & b, dancehall, garage and dance. It all depends on weather, where I'm going and my mood. Let's just say its sunny and I'm of to work, well as I drive along 30 roads I don't need 'go faster' music, so I'll wind my windows down and put on some nice loud r & b or hip hop. If I'm using the motorway then I tend to drive with garage or dance on.

My musical taste is pretty varied. The Audi radio got ripped out and replaced with a JVC head unit. The speakers and woofer that came with the car are very good. It has DAB so I listen to BBC 6 music a lot - love the indie and sheer mix of session tracks and unknowns. The endless repeats and playlists on R1 started to annoy me.

BBC4 on journeys - afternoon play or the comedy at 6:30. BBC7 is essential on very long journeys a nice mix of drama, crime, thrillers and other plays. BH on Sunday morning is interesting along with the occasional story on scientists and what they discover/get up to.

I have a rock mp3 filled with the Jovi et all from the 80's and this gets played when I'm out for a pleasure drive. Still I like R&B and even house music - 80's child all over again.

"Tocatta et Fuge" - Bach's best ever (my wife calls it funeral music so I can't listen to it in the car:()

mainly its dance on the changer but theres a few albums that arent, mp3 6 disc means around around 30 albums, got a bit of -foo fighter, eric clapton, bare naked ladies and goo goo dolls in there as well. some other cds floating about in the car that have aerosmith acdc and some bonjovi on it.

just trying to rip the audio off tiesto's live in Copenhagen dvd. that should fill a fair bit as its around 4 hours long

im with Prince on this one

wen jus cruising around wind dwn the windows and blare some r'n'b or hip hop

but wen on a motorway (or simply no police around) a bit of 'drive faster' music is always good e.g drum & bass or dance

pendulum's 'Hold Your Colour' album always tends to make my foot a bit heavier on the pedal

i always seem to listen to rap/hiphop at the moment im really loving swizz beats - top down, sounds like a really god summer tune, other artist include, lil wayne, flo rida, timbaland, god i can never think who i like when i get asked :D

Bringing some variance to the thread here, cant beat a bit of good old thrash metal to get the foot down. or scare chavs driving past the local park. or old grannies at crossings. or pretty much anyone anywhere now i think about it :)

Suppose i still listen to Alice cooper mainly, been doing so for 36 years, see no need to change now.

Will sometimes lighten the air with a little Gilbert and Sullivan (not the twerp with the large flat cap who sang dodgy ballads about Clair).
''I am the master of the sea...'' or ''I am the very model of a modern major general...''
I'll get me coat...

well i can only listen to country on my cd player its the volvo 3cd one wont play any thing else i can put in a brand new cd (now70) will not play country in there plays every time
have Shania Twain in there at the mo blasting out but once my cd changer comes and i can play home made cd's it will still be country but new stuff and a bit of bass flow rider ect but not to much

got loads of cd's in the car i like listening to dance, reggae,r&b etc etc my music tastes are varied listening to chicago's greatest hits at the mo,must change it though i know almost every word now lol.

Crikey, you must as old as me! :) I remember listening to AC when he was young!

When driving the Robin Hood I have to listen to something load in order to hear it, so U2, Stones, Rock Compilations or Queen.

In the Range Rover, as it only has a cassette player, radio is tuned to R3, R4, 5live or Virgin (soon to become Absolute).

There won't be any ICE in the Elan, too heavy :)

you need a CD player in your range rover OG :p

what will be in my car is,
paramore, papa roach, pendulum, the prodigy, the offspring, foo fighters, nirvana(i know :p) korn, ummm,,, basically too many to mention but everything that involves guitars, drums, bass and vocals.

BUT pop music will never enter the car. EVER.

that is the likes of dizze rascal, liberty x, all the stuff off channel U on sky.
all the nu-crap like p diddy and Jay Z with linkin park(i hate with a vengance, they both just sold out trying to reach out to the other side of music lovers, just to get more money and not for the musuc,
imo they might have gained a few fans, but i know plenty of people who have turned away from either one.

pure Commercialism can stay away thank you very much!

I guess i have am mixture.
I have some old rock- hank williams jr, led zepplin, and a big fan of pink floyd.
Then i have some old rap- snoop dogg, slick rick and a few others.
Then i have alternative rock- kid rock, metallica, nickelback, and several others.
Then some of the old metal- megadeth, pantara, slayer....
Then there is the newer rap- 50 cent, jay z, little wayne...
So like i said i listen to a mixture depending the mood!
It sure is nice to have mp3's. You can have so many songs from so many differnt albums all on one little chip! Think i have about 600 different songs in the car. Which ever mood i am in i can listen to any time!

kids screaming mainly

ha ha thats a good idea dont think my boyfriend would approve though have got some good enough subs but there for when im out alone. anyway i like drum n bass, euphori, and clubland stuff

Guess what song I heard on Radio 1 the other day?

Sweet like Chocolate by Shanks and Bigfoot! Tune!

I tend to flip between Radio 1 and Virgin (Absolute) Radio, but then I like my Gorillaz albums, free dance CD's that came with Fast Car in the late 90s (I know, sad, but I like them - I was rocking out to Da Hool a couple of weeks ago when the sun was shining), bit of Marilyn Manson, lots of 90's indie compilations with tracks by Radiohead, Hurricane #1, Rialto (what happened to them??), Garbage, Mansun (I'm in a wide open spaaace, it's freezing, you'll never get to heaven with a smile on your faaaace for meeeeee!!! Brilliant!!!) all that kind of stuff.

I used to love Radio 1's Evening Session with Steve Lurpack. Zane Lowe's just not as good, he's too cool. Steve was a geek with rubbish jokes and never seemed quite sure what he was doing.

I'm looking forward to getting an MP3 headunit so I can have my entire music collection with me. Pedestrians will be slitting their wrists and overdosing on aspirins all over the shop :)

Yup - radio 1's playlists wind me up. I tend to listen to the radio all day and when they keep playing the same stuff it winds me up. I tend to switch on to BBC 6 music - it is a brilliant mix of old and mainly new indie and undiscovered bands!

I got an MP3/WMA player for my car and it is great - you can have so much on 1 disk. I tend to organise the disks into moods (one for parents in the car, cool mix for freinds, heavy angry rock out stuff, then a soothing MOTR mix for the quieter moments, plus one disk with audio plays, comedies and readings for long journeys!)

me personally i enjoy trance, dance, bubble pop, euro pop (thats what some call it in the states) and then to through my passengers for a loop johnny cash's greatest hits.
