Just a headsup on this, my brother has a V reg Focus and just had to replace the steering pump as the oil seal went. But after some investigation it seems that it wouldnt have had to be replaced (for the gbp150 it cost for the part) if we had noticed the small leak around the sensor. Seems that this had been leaking for some time and just drained the system so it packed up.
Worth checking (and getting a spare one from the scrappies for five quid or forty five quid from ford if a new one!!) as its a bit of a bugger to get the pump out as well.
