Removing Handbrake Cover 1996 Polo

How do you remove the handbrake cover (handle) on a 1996 VW Polo? I want to replace it like i did with my gearstick handle. I've purchased a new leather gaiter but i want to change the handle. Does anyone know if screwing or cutting is involved?

if it doesnt twist off then most likly is that it will need cut though but not sure

Sometimes the button twists off then there is a screw underneath. Cutting is always a last resort.
