Point of concept cars

What do you think the point of concept cars is? Most manufacturers turn out a new concept car, some are quite space age, others are a little more down to earth. Few actually make it into production though.

So what is the point of them?

Is it testing the market interest in a feature, pushing the boundaries of design or just a marketing gimmick? Do you have your own theories?

I think it is a case of the manufacturers showcasing their skills, many of the concept ideas do make it onto standard production cars in the not too distant future, this can only be a good thing for everybody.

Its a bit of all of them reasons Waynne. They develop new ideas to see how well it goes down with the public and it pushes the envelope of car development further.

We all "need" new features don't we!

I can't wait for puncture proof wheels to come in!

Hyundai have knocked out some simply astonishing concept cars, I must admit I love the look of their coupés but as a middle aged man I think they're not for me
