Hey guys, i'm new to the site. I just bought a 1991 MR2 non-turbo.
Im looking to fix this thing up, first off is some body damage but after that is the engine. I really want a turboed engine. would it just be easier to do an engine swap or try and add one on to the existing engine?
Adding a turbo is a major engineering task and without a kit with full instructions and all the parts you need there is a big risk of blowing up the engine. Expect to spend 50 hours upwards on a project of this type. This is not the sort of modification unless you are mechanically competent.
Supercharger conversion kits are easier to add so this might be an option if you don't want to do an engine swap.
paul woods fits the turbo engine from the later mr2 in his conversions.
he's just fitted a v8 in his car and the toyota engine from the elise in a mk1.
