I am currently working on a dissertation for an engineering degree at University. My dissertation involves producing a concept design of a VW Van of the future that respectfully captures the character of the original. This project was chosen from my enthusiasm for VW’s.

To aid me in my design process I would be grateful if you could answers these short questions.

1. Do you see there to be a market for a new VW Transporter that relates to the original T1?

2. If you wanted to buy a new VW Transporter what would you be prepared to pay for a base model?

3. What design features from the original would you like to see respectfully designed into the new vehicles design?

4. What is your opinion of the engine reverting to a flat four and mounted at the rear?

5. Do you like the shape of the T5 Caravelle?

6. If Yes/No, why?

7. When you think of the Original VW Camper/Transporter what are the thoughts and feelings that first enter your head?

Heya Dave, welcome to the forum!

I'm not a massive VW fan, but I thought I'd try and answer the questions anyway, as it may help!

1. I can see a market there, but definitely a niché market! There are only certain types of people who would be that interested in this, as it the kind of vehicle you would buy as an enthusiast.

2. The kind of people who are likely to buy such a vehicle would mostly travel around the UK or Europe, and therefore not your usual 'Jetsetter' type of person with lots of money! £10-15,000 (?) Ballpark figure!

3. I love the 'V' shape curves which run from the front of the van, and continue down the sides..

4. I think this type of engine would have to be a base. Generally when looking at larger vehicles people tend to go for the V6, and normally AWD.

5/6. Not particularly! Looks like a Bora mated with some other monstrosity! Too American for me, this van has forgotten its roots!

7. Hippy's, surfers! And a real family vehicle to have fun in!
