hi. a bit of trouble with g/box.

5 speed manual, coasting along 30mph with clutch pressed, im gettin a nice whine from the box, when its in 3rd itll whine, bang it in 2nd it whines louder, and 1st it screams at me, with clutch pressed in... silent in neutrel
sounds like the input shaft bearings???
any advice before i rip the box off next week?? (when i got time off work)
bin quoted £200 to recon the box but dont fancy that if its just a quick bearing! i hate being ripped off by big companies. like many people have....
any advice much appriciated

£200 is not bad for a recon 'box. The labour to dismantle, find, and fix the failed bearing(s) will probably cost much the same.

much the same from me..... i had the same problem in my old polo 1.0E, kept whining when re-engaging the clutch, thought it sounded quite cool for a time until the car totally gave up!! god that was a long push home haha
