Well hello everyone nice to meet you ;]

Hello and welcome to Torque Cars buddy. I had to start out on my mums insurance buddy. It's a pain but at least you'll be on the road.

hey turbo and thats what i will most likely be doing, the insurance for a the starlet glanza on my mothers is £995 i think if it doesnt change i think i will go for it as i should have my job by then, all i can do is try at the end.

Thats it buddy thats all you can do is try. My insurance was higher than that in the first year. Although I did have a 1.8 turbo diesel mondeo. It'll come down in the end buddy. You'll get there.

Hello and welcome nice to have you along.

I used to work in insurance and getting the car insured in a parents name is called fronting. There are a lot of restrictions. Most will expect your mother to be the main driver and you will probably not be able to use it for travelling to work. I don't want to get you down but it is something you should know, check all the small print carefully as I would hate to see you get caught out.

hey and welcome to the site mate.

dsubaru - this is where the insurance companies are wanting ighter restrictions, basically whats happining is young inexperianced drivers are buying higher powered cars but putting them in parents even grandparents name, the insurance is also put in their name with the young driver as a named driver. this allows them to drive the car cheaply. the problem is that the main driver / policy holder never drives the car. alot of companies have caught onto this and have in place things like the main driver must be the main driver ie use it most of the time and not use it something like 20 miles a year while the named driver is doing nearly 20k.

sorry dot dot but this is something that annoys the hell out of me, fair enough doing it for the 1st year when the insurance is a killer but i know folk that are still doing it even though they could ave had 5 years NCB by now.
might also be worth pointing out there might be a sharp increase in the policy price. basically as you will be a learner driver you are required by law to have someone with a full licence sitting beside you, after you pass your test you no longer need someone sitting there so are more likely, going purly on statisitcs here, more of an idiot.

been there done it, and have since relised how much of an idiot i have been in the 1st 2 years of driving

i see where you are both coming from but it is going to be hard as even on a 1ltre car the insurance is £2,000 plus and the only way i will be able to afford it is if i go under my parents name as i am a student aswel so in my terms im pretty much buggered what ever i do.. :s

theres something wrong if your paying £2k on a 1 ltr. my civic was a 1.4 and it cost me £1300 fully comp after i passed my test at 19. that was with alloys, induction kit and sports/de cat declared. was £900 before mods

other things is stuff like adding your ma as a named driver on your policy, that can knock a nice bit off. ( ie i saved £80 by adding the wife to my policy on the bora )

ive done it in my name with my parents as named drivers it still comes up as 2k plus its because im going to be 17 :S im just going to leave it until i get my license then have a look around, but thanks for all the support

thats mental mate,my sisters trying to get her 1 ltr polo insured 3rd party in her name with mum as a named driver and its around £800 with her as a learner.

wait is this for the glanza ?

F***ing hell.
TTFT or fully comp ? something as old as a 106 youd be better TTFT as theyre likly to write it off if anything happens to it anyway. also check all th other parts you can save money, drop the milage down to 8000.
as soon as you pass your test get back in touch with your tutor and gt on the pass plus sceme. alot of insurance companies give a discount equivalent to 1 years NCB ( around 25%)

Are you putting in that you have a provisional license or a full license? It makes a huge difference sometimes. If you are a student, try giving Endsliegh a call. They knock off 10% for students. Also try Adrian Flux, they specialise in modified cars so will probably be cheaper for you with the Glanza. They also do discount for being in a car club (TorqueCars is a car club!). Add your mum onto your policy as well. Fronting isn't a good idea as well mate and I'm with PG on this. It really isn't worth the hassle if something happens as an insurance company will not pay out if you are caught. Here are the links for the companies mentioned above: http://www.quotes-endsleigh.co.uk/motorquote/quote.aspx?referralid=&icid= ... http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/.

Welcome to the forum by the way mate.
