2006 Volvo XC90 2.5l Upgrade

Hi everyone,
I’ve got a 2006 XC90 which I bought new and now am looking into what I can do to upgrade the cars performance. I am absolutely new to this and my thinking is rather than buy a new car, it would be cheaper to upgrade my existing one. The car is my daily driver. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you.
