cheers roverboy. mines got alloy covers. i believe the others have plastic ones. not had chance to look for the eng number

I think the id is part of the engine number 20T = T series.
The cam covers are also different.

hi have got a k reg 420 sli. anyone got any idea how to tell the difference between a "m" and a "t" series engine. i know this ain't the most interesting of cars but it's serving well as a test bed for an up coming project any help would be welcome cheers
