I have two cars. My Daily driver is a 2000 Ford Cougar 2.5 V6. This is pretty much unmodified, and I'm interested in getting a bit more performance without getting too radical (or spending a fortune. My other car in a 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 that I've restored to a good standard, and also built and fitted a modified 355 CID small block and TH400 transmission. I built the small block from bare bones, after having it machined and tested for cracks etc. The compression was raised to 9.5 : 1 with hypereutectic pistons, fitted to balanced conrods. The block was bored to +10, taking the engine to 355 cid from the original 350 cid. There's a Comp Cams 270 lift cam and roller rockers, World Products series II heads with oversized intake and exhaust valves. The intake is a Holley Dominator, topped off with a modified 750cfm 4160 series Holley 4 bbl carb. Spark comes from a Holley annihilator Ignition system, coupled to an MSD coil and Mallory electronic distributor. Lube is through a high pressure oil pump, Timing from Cloys True Roller timing chain. The Transmission I again built from the empty casing, after buying it from someone who assured me it was good, I found that it wouldn't select gears. When I stripped it down, half the bits were in back to front, which I found to be a considerable acheivement!!!! The rebuild benefitted from B&M valve body and mods for quicker shifting, plus shifter kit that allows you to hold in whichever gear you selected, rather than allowing the box
