yeah take supra for an instance
with stock internals the car is almost bullet proof
i know for sure in thailand they are racing toyota 2jz engines producing over 800bhp with stock internals...
now that is an example of being reliable... picture if u have the car and your not upgrading it... how long will that last.

there are many more
so... yes i think that toyota should be one of the highest on the list of reliability and value for your money.

I've had:
1. 1986 Chrysler La Baron GT 4 speed manual white convertible
I bought it for $500 US when i turned 16 the thing was falling apart. The ceiling when ever it was touched particles would rain down. I had to figure out how to make it run every day. i drove it to school on occasion to school with out front seats back seats and several other things i had that car almost ready to get some body work done and my dad sold it to a friend from school.
2. 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis GSE toreador red
This my dad gave to me after he sold my La Baron. This car is the same platform as the Crown Victoria Police interceptor the Ford panther platform. I the only problem with this car was that it burned oil. So what i did was i acquired several police issue merchandise. I added the interceptor logos on the trunk lid, undercover strobe lights in the grille and front and back dash. The only thing that i didn't have was the Unity search light for an undercover police car. i also had a rockford fosgate head unit and 2 12 inch dual subwoofers
3. 1994 Mercury Cougar XR7 toreador red
This my mom gave me after some unpleasantness with my father and the GM. This car when i got it had a completely aftermarket sound system with Polk / Momo 6x9s with tweeters upfront and Alpine type-R 6x9s with tweeters in the back. the head unit was an alpine that some one attempted to steal but could only rip off parts of it with out taking the whole unit. The guy before me also had a custom suspension built for the Cougar and the front end was dropped an inch. The car also at one point had NO2 ran through it i found tubing in the trunk and several things scrawled on the frame and under the hood with temperatures and pressures written on them and a rack for a NO2 bottle. all I've really been able to do to it is little i replaced the radio with a Dual head unit with a DVD player and i put my subs in the trunk. I also have put on a K & N aircharger cold air intake.
4. 1985 Chevrolet Corvette Silver targa top
This car was held together with chewing gum and paper clips literally. We've had some head aches trying to get this thing running again. first the thermometer went out then the door broke then the distributer broke. then it would rev and die. we had the engine rebuilt. then the gas tank rusted out and rust would get into the engine. replaced that. now it needs new tyres. and the head lights won't rise when i turn them on some times. they open half way or when they do open they wont close. and it needs body work it looks like some one cut off the back of one corvette and put on a another one. it was used needless to say.
