for me personally i would have to pick 5 an it would be the 60's, 70's, 80's ,90's and the 00's
well if you get to pick 2 why cant i pick 5 :lol:

It is without doubt the 80's, just about every car manufacturer was racing and rallying. The 80's brought us competitive 4wd, the Quattro set the benchmark for all! Group B Supercars, Metro 6R4, Delta S4, Pug T16. Turbocharged, Supercharged, space frames and then everyone bought the nearest thing and tried to emulate them.

RS500 Cosworth Sierra, BMW E30 M3, the VW GTi, I can go on and on!

All of these cars spawned fast road cars and derivatives of.

The 70's gave us style, rust and Yom Kippur!

Thats exactly why 1 of my choices was the 80's. Was a great decade for cars and motorsport.....

well i've been thinking about this for a while now and even though i like cars from every decade i will go for the 90's the e30m3 was still in production (my favorite bmw of all time , the mk2 rally the best golf ever made imo, the best merc ever made the 190 cosworth imo, the escort cosworth, and we started to receive the jap imports pulsars etc ,etc

Sorry, my turn to put the pedantic hat on! The Merc Cosworth was launched in 83 so you do have a car you like from the 80's ;)

My mates son has one, an early 2.3 16 valver. Also remember them racing these in the 80's, somewhere in my stash I have a Cars & Car Conversion magazine featuring this. Aren't I the sad git!

I can remember them in touring cars.... Good cars but I prefer the Sierra Cossie.....:D:D:D

The 2.3 16 valve Merc was an answer to BMW's 2.3 litre M3 in the mid 1980s. Sadly the BM was a LHD model only. It had a dog leg first, with 2-3 and 4-5 as straight changes. Fast, quite loud, no PAS, but possibly better than MB's 190 response.

Mass market cars have improved since that era; your average Mondeo will probably outhandle either of those 1980's offerings.

The good thing about cars from the 80's is that raw sense of feeling when driving 1. Especially the merc and the bmw. They make you feel so involved in driving it. I think some cars are loosing this these days over comfort....

I'd have to go with the 80's. Carbs and points - this made tuning interesting. Now you just get a guy with a laptop to plug in and hey presto you have another 50bhp and lot of Torques!

Lancia ruled in the 80's IMHO and Alfa produced the awesome GTV. It's a shame that most of these cars thought rust protection was sufficiently provided by a layer of wax every few months.;)

I think the 60s and very early 70s were good for US cars insomuch as they were big, brash and underpowered in terms of their mass, a caricature of their home nation.

60s was probably the pinnacle of our domestic manufacturers - are there any left unowned by conglomerates?

And at this time Jaguar perfected the disc brake and proved to Ferrari that handling can be more important (I would say always is more important) than power by out-braking them to victory in the Le Mans!

The 80s brought about some important technical improvements for the masses including injection systems, ECUs in place of older mechanical systems and safety devices like air bags and crumple zones.

My personal opinion is that very late 80s, to mid-90s Japanese cars were consistently the most beautiful and had a bit of guts at the same time.

So, no clear answer there then!
