Hi, i have a 97 a3 1.8se with some steering issues. When the car is idling the power steering doesnt work at all, when i rev above 1500rpm the steering will then start to work but makes a wining noise. Does anyone know what this could be ? I have checked the fluid which seems to be fine. Thanks...

thanks for the help, i have had a look for vag com and vag tacho on the internet, would i be right in thinking that you can get vag com for around £20 and vag tacho for around £30 from ebay?

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that myself but read somewhere the immobilisers havent got anything to do with the ecu, at least on the a3s anyway. Apparently the immobiliser is built into the instrument cluster but i cant find anything. i know you can buy some sort of diagnostic equipment...

that sounds interesting. is that a common thing to do with the torque limiting in 1st and 2nd? if i wanted to do that would it just be a case of asking the mapper?

it would probably be either for the quattro 6 speed or the s3. Is the gearbox and clutch different on the s3 aswell then?

Hi, i was just wondering what the difference is between the 1.8t engine (150/180bhp) and the 1.8t engine out of the s3 (225bhp). Is it just a case of modded ecu and maybe slightly bigger turbo? im trying to decide if i should get the 1.8t quattro or just go straight to the s3 for my next car...

I would recommend JVC / Alpine for headunits in terms of qualtiy music , Alpine offer a few headunits with a good 4v output, inphase headunits are not very reliable neither are clarion in my experience. components...Kenwood / Orion although im running pioneer in my car which arent too bad...

i know im looking at differnet bits of tuning at the moment, the only thing i dont quite understand is the difference between a dump valve and a wastegate, my mate seems to think that a wastegate is better for performance but i cant see how, and im not too sure if a wastegate has the same sound...

Well i think at the moment its around 120 - 130bhp. Ideally i would like about 160 - 180 bhp but im not sure what it would involve doing exactly. I havent got too much knowledge with these engines at all. Thanks for your help.
