The Mokka X is a great project car to play with. If you do your homework then you can create an awesome Mokka X but don't be fooled there are lots of sports modifications out there that will simply not suit it read our unbiased guides first.

Handling/Suspension upgrades

Many Mokka X owners uprate the handling of their cars with uprated suspension kits as a priority, this will certainly increase your enjoyment of the car.

Fully adjustable suspension allows you to fine tune the handling of you Mokka X greatly enhancing your drive.

We would go to a maximum drop of 25mm - 39 mm. on most models. You risk handling compromises if you go lower than this.

Our aim in Mokka X engine tuning should be to increase peak power and Torque at the top end.

To be completely frank and honest, on the more modest engine sizes you are wasting your time spending money on modifications, so if this applies to you get yourself an engine swap then apply the following mods.

Getting the right modified upgrades for your planned usage of the car is a time and money saver. Stage 3 motor sport parts just don't work well on the road and will make the car undrivable.

Best Engine Mods for your car

1. Engine Tunes - engine tuning/remapping provides the most advantage in terms of cost savings,  aftermarket ECUs, and piggyback ECUs are all alternatives.
2. Fast road cams are one of the most significant mechanical changes, but they must be installed by someone who knows what they're doing and they are not always easy to source but you might find a local firm to regrind a stock camshaft.
3. Intake and Exhaust - Note that on their own these mods will NOT ADD POWER in most cases, but they can help enhance power after other mods by removing the restriction.
4. Upgrades to turbochargers and superchargers - forced induction is the most efficient approach to increase air supply, allowing you to burn more fuel and make more power. It is one of the most costly upgrades but provides the best gains.
5. Head work - The goals of porting and flowing the head are to get air flowing into the engine while removing flow restrictions and turbulence.

Typical stage 1 mods often include: Panel air filter, Alloy wheels, Engine Tunes/Remapping, Lighter flywheel, Suspension upgrade (drop 25mm - 39 mm.), Sports exhaust.

Typical stage 2 mods often include: fuel pump upgrades, Fast road cam, Power/Sport clutch, high flow fuel injector, Ported and polished head.

Typical stage 3 mods often include: Internal engine upgrades (pistons/head/valves), Engine balancing, Competition cam, Adding or upgrading forced induction (turbo/supercharger), Sports gearbox.

Your goal when modding your car should be a wide torque output. You don't want all the torque to be at the top end of the rev range unless you are creating a motor sport car.

In this article we shall give an overview and introduction to the best modifications for your car, but we'd encourage you to spend some time on the site looking into the details of each type of performance part.One of the best mechanical mods you can do to your NA (naturally aspirated) engine is to fit a fast road cam .

The intake and exhaust valve durations play a large part in your cars power band, but be careful here, getting this wrong can upset the idle and make the car awkward to drive in traffic. You'd need to follow a camshaft upgrade with other mods and finish with a tune/remap to fully release the power gain.

When pushing up the power you will need to increase to the fuelling. More power needs more fuel.

Using higher octane fuel is another option if you find you are suffering from detonation or premature ignition on your Vauxhall project after fitting other modified modifications. Upgrading the injectors is another beneficial modification and will deliver sufficient fuel.

If you've uprated your fuelling with bigger injectors you will also need to get a bigger fuel pump to supply it.

Intake and Exhaust Tuning.

Breathing mods are usually next up.  Please note that WE DO NOT RECOMMEND INDUCTION KITS, unless you have tuned your car massively and are finding that the standard air intake has become a restriction.

Derestricting the air flow into the engine is a primary goal of car tuners so get a better flowing air filter if you find that the car is running lean only if you find the car is running lean. Induction kits can sound great but due to the warm air in the engine bay they will not really increase power and actually rob you of power on most cars.

Sports exhausts will certainly help air flow through the engine but do not go too big or you could very well end up with a reduced flow rate. So generally speaking, keep to 1.5 to 2.5 inches as a rule of thumb.

Getting the head gas flowed will help get more air into each cylinder. This is definitely a job for a professional with a flow bench. Your clutch can lose you loads of power as you increase the power if it starts to fail and the standard clutches are only ever good for power gains of up to 48%. Fit a power clutch to avoid power leak through the transmission. The best mods we would do for your Mokka X are Remapping or piggy back ecu, fast road cam and air intake and exhaust.

Remaps offer massive power gains on all turbo charged cars. On NA (naturally aspirated) engines the benefits are doubtful. However a chipped ECU on a NA (naturally aspirated) engine will help unleash the potential if you have done a lot of mods.

We've also seen some tuners playing with twincharging conversions and making some seriously high power figures.

Adding forced induction will see large power gains but this is usually too expensive to be cost effective. Turbos are often harder to add than a supercharger. It is more challenging to map a turbo as the boost builds exponentially with revs.

Superchargers however will give a boost which is correlating to engine speed so is easier to map. Decreasing the engines compression ratio will allow you to add forced induction, water injection may also help prevent detonation.

Alloy wheel upgrades.

Alloy wheels will help the brakes cool down and are usually less heavy than steel ones. If you are serious about performance then you will need to carefully choose your tires - ideally with a soft compound tire. The downside to large rims on your Mokka X is that you're altering your effective final drive ratio so this will have a detrimental effect on performance and acceleration.

Due to this fact we would advise sticking to a maximum wheel size of 18 inches, although we know some of our members have installed larger rims with no problems.
