We've done this thread before but as a lot more nice cars have appeared in movies and because tastes change it's time to re-evaluate our preferences.

What is your all time favourite movie car and why? (It doesn't even need to be the main car.)

'55 Chevy in Two Lane Blacktop

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZez1NS7Ptk

Main actors are James Taylor and Dennis Wilson (you have to be of a certain age to know who these guys are)

Car is REAL, unlike most of the cars in modern films. The street racing scenes are also authentic, that's how we did it in the 70s over here as well.

so many beautiful muscle cars in that racing clip Old git the 55 chevy you mentioned looks good in rat look primer, 69 Charger Daytona, the 70 cuda and did i spot a green chevy nova in there against the daytona? not sure what it was but thats definitely a movie i will have to check out, thanks for the link

My favourite movie car has always been the 71 Mustang Mach 1 Eleanor from the original gone in sixty seconds, proper chase scenes no computer graphics but i think it killed the director and star of the movie whilst filming can anyone else confirm that?

According to the entry in Wiki, no he didn't, although he was injured:

Real accidents

In one scene at the construction area where the Mustang has been surrounded, a patrol car roars up a hill in pursuit and overturns. This was a real accident, and the officer inside was nearly crushed when the siren "can" on the roof caved the roof in. The scene was left in.
J.C. Agajanian Jr., who plays a detective in the roadblock sequence at Torrance Mazda Agency, was almost killed when the stunt with "Eleanor" went wrong and the Mustang slammed into his unmarked police car, which he was standing behind.
The scene where the Mustang tags a car on the highway and spins into a telephone pole at 100 mph was a real accident. Halicki was badly hurt and filming was stopped while he recovered. According to people on the set, after the mishap the first thing that Halicki said when he regained consciousness was "Did we get coverage?" Likewise, the scene in which a train derailment is observed in the film was not part of the original shooting script but it is in fact a real train that derailed and when Halicki heard about this he wanted to incorporate it into the film.

I really dislike the way that modern car/chase movies are made,
anyone seen Death Proof? they used 13 of each vehicle, the '70 Challengers and '69 Chargers to make the movie, some of those could have been completely restored and put back on the road where they belong but no they destroyed them never to be seen again, but where do they get them from? do they go around buying up any they find even perfectly servicable ones?

it's the same story with The Dukes of Hazard i think they used 9 '69 Chargers taking them over jumps and stuff

I do feel though that British and European cars are very under represented in films especially American films, apart from the Bond franchise there aren't many that feature cars from this side of the pond

?? Im confused.com??

Are we talking about the best Car IN a Movie or
Best Car Movie or
Best car seine in a Movie?

Best car in a Movie - Mad Max
Best Car Movie - Gone in 60
Best car seine - French connection car chase (you know, the one under the railway)

So many cars!

Dodge Charger 440 in Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry.

Christine ftw '58 Plymouth Fury.

Herbie!

Pontiac GTO in xXx

It's worth adding that doesn't include the ones destroyed when filming the series.

General Lee and KITT are probably the most popular anyway, along with Herbie and Chitty.

My current favourite is the Mustang GTA used in Bullit.

funny how the best movie cars always seem to be american! probably because most movies are american. ( just thought i would state the obvious )
But if you watch american films based in europe ,i.e.RONIN with de niro, one of the best and most expensive car chase scenes ever filmed . But the cars ..... well ! very ordinary indeed.
going back to the topic. the best film car ever .
Its got to be one of the most famous..I will just say BULLIT with steve McQueen.
that 1968 all time classic which also was the best street car chase film of its day and many years later.

300!! :amazed: that's just sick :sad2: those beautiful cars, what a waste :(

But would those cars be as popular if all they ever did was run into a gas station and explode (Bullit again)?

Besides there were plenty of them. They took orders for a thousand Daytonas alone.

Dukes of Hazzard was for the Charger what Italian Job (original, not remake) was for the Mini.

The Dodge.. i think its a Dodge from the movie Wraith with charlie sheen i think? many years old but that was a cool movie car i loved it so much as a kid :D

So many to choose from,
Gone in 60 seconds - Eleanor.
Transporter 2&3 - Audi A8 W12.
Casino Royale - Vanquish S.
Always had soft spot for the A-Team Van.(must be the van driver in me:lol:).
Life on Mars - MK3 Cortina. Also my 1st car:).
Loads more that i've missed, got so many car movies on DVD my favourite changes quite often:lol:
