I found out the other day that the Mitusbishi EVO FQ400 is rated on engine size and not CO2 which makes a massive saving.

What other cars avoid the harsh CO2 emissions rating? Is it just limited edition models or do low volume car makes like Ariel also escape?

It would be really nice to see which cars we can buy that won't help us line the pockets of the Government.:cheesy:

Get a Smart TDi... you pay no tax on it because there's so little CO2 emissions. I have a petrol Smart Car and I only pay £35 per year... and the car is a little rocket. Also, as far as I'm aware if a company is building smaller volumes of cars they can opt for a smaller less strenuous quality test (EWCTA) done by the DVLA to get a line of cars on the road. This test is far kinder on the tax and CO2 emissions stages.

Should tell you everything you need to know.

Note that it also takes into account the efficiency of manufacture and if components are recyclable when giving the rating.
