When starting a cold engine let it tick over for a few moments to circulate the oil - most engine wear occurs within the first minutes of switching it on Oil is an often overlooked part of the engine but more internal friction = lower power and more heat produced. So the aim is to reduce the internal friction and cool the engine with a good oil and changing the oil frequently is vital to add longevity to your engine - certainly for the paranoid before and after a track day session and every 3-6 months.

Have reservations with the recommendation for synthetic oil for turbos with BUSH bearings as most of the latest types have had to reduce the ZDDP additive levels to comply with the anti pollution rules/levels and not kill or reduce the life of the converter .
The following article will enlighten you as to why.

The article is a few years old so I am sure there are more products out there with the required high ZDDP levels.

One of the worst things for engine wear, apart from cold start high revs and high loads is cold switch off. You're leaving acidic gases dissolved in water vapour inside the cylinder bores. These acids etch away at the metallic surfaces. This is why a car that does 200 miles a day is in better condition than one which does 2 miles a day after both have been used for five years, The high miler has rarely if ever been switched off without coming to running temperature.

That's why taxis and long distance trucks/lorries can reach very high mileage and not blow burnt oil smoke.
