It's difficult to decide really. At the moment my car buying budget is £0.
Let's see what the insurers come up with.
I'm keen on a post 1996 BMW 5 series with an engine torquey enough to deal with automatic transmission.
I think that the remapped 406 was great fun but diesel servicing is pricey. It's an insurance total loss anyway so no point considering reparing it.
Hopefully the insurers will find favour and offer a half reasonable payout.
I also think that I'm going back to petrol - my annual mileage is low so I might as well take advantage of the lower servicing costs and lower purchase prices of petrol cars.
And, do I really NEED 300lbft plus torque? No possibly not. A 523i or 528i would serve the purpose very nicely indeed.
Even a V6 Vauxhall/Opel Omega would be a sensibel choice.
I'm not about to buy a 1.8 Astra however. Crash or not, I'm quite content with my driving ability.
