During the last few weeks there has been alot of snow and ice across the country, iv been wondering if anyone has been pleasently suprised with the performance of their vechicle, or infact shamed to the extent of they never even driving in such conditions again.

I am one of the later, i thought my 406 was climbing ritely until i stopped just past a scuby and a new type astra, you think id be pleased with that but what went wizzy up past us all but a blonde in a clio.... shame on me!!!

It's the skinny tyres. My Punto just cuts through the ice and snow, wheras my mates A3 has a lot more trouble.

heard that the ka's are good in the snow

but my little suzuki sj was very good in the snow ok has mud tyres but did not get stuck and i was trying

as ma says its the tyres on modern cars that let them down! just look at the ralley cars on ice stages the tyres are almost bike wheels;)

my old peugeot 405 estate and mk3 escort estate where great in ice and snow they never got stuck once! and where i live that was a blessing cause its all hills and narrow roads by me:(
but my leon is a totally different story i get stuck on my own street and cant make it up even the slightest incline:amazed: and i think the main reason is other than the wheels i have fitted is. it just has to much torque to gain traction e.g. 4th or 5th gear on a slight incline no revs just using the tickover the wheels spin with the tc on and off! its very disappointing:mad:

I wish I had an old landrover with the 3500 V8 engine. I could have some serious fun in the snow with that and as it is built like a tank I needn't worry about denting it.

Hi Guys!!! Quite an interesting subject!!! I live in Kiev and for the past 2 weeks it snowed almost every day. Last night it snowed and today we have about 20cm of snow. I guess its not the kind of car which is important for snow and ice but the kind of tyres it's wearing!! If you come here you will be amazed. Old Ladas driving in severe ice conditions and they never get stuck)))) On my Sonata I opted for Kumho Ice Power KW21 205/60 R16 this year and they work pretty fine. Sometimes ABS kicks in, in sudden stops but it's normal!!!! Well, I am having a great time driving in these icy and snowy conditions:p

See that black '88 Jaguar XJS on my profile? (jetlag700) I drive it the snow and ice with studded tires and it drives like a snowmobile, never gets stuck, never slides off the road, never lets me down. The sheer weight alone added to the low center of gravity might have something to do with it's good handling in the snow. Get a lot of odd looks though cuz people don't think I should drive it in the snow~!~!
