Ignoring tax, insurance and fuel MPG what car would you spend £3000 on and why?

Do you think you can get much of a car for £3000?

I think you could do very well for £3k in today's economic climate. You could score a BMW 750i V12 and have some change.

Subaru Impreza, Nissan 200sx, Fiesta and escort Rs turbo, Audi A3 1.8t. Cause they are all fun to drive and turbo'd.
Primera Gt, Prelude 2.2 vtec, Almera gti. The list goes on and on there are loads ot choose from with that money.

Come on TN69, a noisy Fiesta over a svelte V12. I know you like your cars on the vocal side but you're being silly now.

would have to go the same way as Hdi something like a V8 jag, Bmw, old merc. or something older MG GT etc something you could take out at the weekend even american like the firebird

of course you can, for example a 1990 nissan 200sx,
toyota mr2
honda crx compact.
and plus you'll have money left to invest them on the car.

i would buy this for £2k then spend the rest on putting a v6 in

I'd probably go with a TT Supra and a remap. That should beat most things on the road!

There is also a lot of really good jags around for silly money. You can get a 2000 XJS for about £2-3000 and they are pretty quick and nice to drive!

BMW 318i, full breathing kit, turbo conversion and a remap. Easy peasy 300bhp.

That's one of the worst ideas I've ever heard lol. Why not start with a 325i or something? Probably cheaper to buy than the 318s because they cost more to run.

The E30 325i is a great car anyway. But you wouldn't get much change from 3k for a decent one. I've been looking at them myself. There is the odd one thats fairly cheap but most come with problems.

The problem at the moment be that anyone who has a decent one will quite likely not be selling it.
The 97 on 323i was a 2.5 litre car.

=[ I'm relatively new to all this, lol, just taking a stab at it. I like the 3 series and I can pick one up for under a grand, so can't be bad with a 3k budget.

I'm a bit of a no-mods bloke to be honest. My car is standard completely apart from an ECU remap.

I reckon you could get a heck of a lot of car for £3k at the moment. THe only problem is, as per my earlier post, that anyone with an ageing 3 series (for example) in good nick, is unlikely to be offering it for sale.

My own car was about £23k when new, I bought it 3 years old (car, not me) for very much less (four figure sum only!)

The economy is so fragile now that I'd be reluctant to part with it at all simply because I don't really relish the idea of finding another car.
