No insult intended, im sure some of you would never think of buying a rover :p

Is that a list of cars you wouldn't consider buying Massive?

I would never have thought of buying SKODA PROTON DAEWOO OR KIA.
But in recent times all makers (possibly with the exception of Proton) have brought out some really nice cars. Skoda have come a long way since the days of the rear engined Estelle.

BMW's are nice cars but I feel they are a bit flash for me, I really don't want the monied executive image (so I bought an Audi instead ) Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't want an Aston Martin or Ferrari because of the jealousy factor. I like people ignoring my car in the car park and letting me out at junctions and not trying to race me at the lights.

For me its got to be FAST and FUN but STEALTH - the Q car or sleeper philosophy.

(I wouldn't have considered a Diesel either but someone, somewhere on a forum said that diesels are "not bad nowadays" or something like that - wonder who I could be referring to!

yup non of those do anything for me, some bmw are ok but the all lokk near enough the same execpt the rear, same with peugeots, but i kinda like the 206 and 307, maybe 207, and yea have a very flashy car like aston can lead to spenind more money getting scrathes out of paint and maybe some new windows, i wouldnt say no if someone offered me one though :p

No idea who that'll be, Waynne!!

I don't think I'd dismiss anything these days without driving it first. Even the blando Jap tin Corolla is now a disarmingly good drive.

Sorry to say it, but so is the current Micra. Don't like the image they project though.

Why not any classic car?

Don't get me wrong, there was a time when I was on the right side of 25 when I wouldn't either, but over the last couple of years, all of a sudden I've love a 60's Mustang or GTO and I would'nt say no to a 70's Celica or the TE27 Corolla either.

I would never buy a G-Wiz!!! I'd never get a Smart either. I don't like are Skoda either and after learning in a 206....I'd never drive one again!

I would never buy a PT cruiser. I remember when I was young my mates mum had one. We never let it go.

i dunno classic cars just look ugly to me.and must pollute like hell!, i like the modern look, i do like mustangs and gto, but i dunno, i like the modern look of sports cars with the individual lights a lot have now, like angel eyes,

isnt gwiz an electrical car too? 0-30 in like a year? can it even reach 50?

You talk about polluting old vehicles but the manufacture of one new car creates more pollution than it will emit during its entire lifetime.

So anyone who sells used cars has a carbon footprint that is effectively lower than nil!!

the g-wiz is built for city driving rather than real world so even 30mph is a bit optimistic

what modern look pretty soon all cars are going to ehd up the same. theres only so many aerodynamic shapes. all car manufactures are basically forced to reduce emissions and improve economy, a lot of this comes down to drag any improving the way the car cuts through the air.

weight savings also will improves economy as there will be less strain on the engine. even Ferrari were looking at using small wheels and small and powerful ceramic brakes. rather than fitting 20" and huge brakes

Wouldnt buy a Skoda, would really buy a Ford, never really liked them o_O Nor BMW, just dont like the image they give.

Wouldnt buy anything French, tbh. Unless I dont realise what goes into my car, haha. I'd buy Italian cars. And unlike Waynne, I really would buy an Aston|Bentley/AMG Merc/Ferrari/Lambo - Damn what people think of me, what matters is I've earnt it, and that my friends know I've earnt it.

Passers by can just eat the rubber that flies off the rears :p

i would never get any electric cars. or would i ever get a vw beetle, just hate em. the one other i would never get is a robin relliant :/... there just so dangerous 3 wheels :/ plus plastic bodywork... not carbonfibre of fibreglass... plastic like you get on your wheelebin

I wouldn't buy anything French. Far too flimsy and unreliable electrics. Wouldn't touch anything Fiat (Fix It Again Tomorrow!) Any pacific rim cars (e.g. Kia). Ford are out too. I've never really liked them. I know they are better now but just have memories of my mother telling me her Escort key could open all her friends Escorts!

I don't like Alfa Romeo's either. Same reason I hate Fiats. They're unreliable plus the depreciate too much.

Another manufacturer I hate with a passion is Mercedes. They aren't as reliable as the should be given the price, Most are automatic (which I HATE in a car) and apart from the AMG tuned ones all are "limited" to 155mph which means you could have a Merc with masses of power but top end the basic Merc's could keep up. I don't like the idea of hold back the full power of an engine and stopping what it can really do. You may never even get near 155mph+ in real life (and legally in this country) but it's nice to know that if you were to unleash it on an Autobahn it could go flat out to it's top speed!

Also posers buy Merc's. These tend to be people who don't want to know how the car works they just want it to look good. IMO a car has to have a purpose, a reason for buying it other than looks coming first. Don't get me wrong a car has to look nice but it actually has to work first as a car.

At the moment I don't think I'd buy VW mainly for the reason that Skoda and SEAT offer the same cars with a massive saving. The Leon Cupra, Octavia vRS and Golf GTi are all pretty much the same cars with minor differences. The only one I'd buy out of all of VW's range would be the Golf R32 mainly because of the engine and it's cheaper to buy it in that than in say a TT.

Also all VAG cars have the dreaded EPC system which is a **** to fix if the light comes on. A friend of mine working in Audi was saying if a car comes in now with the EPC light on they have to make it the last priority as it takes so long to fix sometimes as it's so unpredictable. Something can be wrong, the light comes on but no fault code is registered so you can't diagnose the fault.

I buy pretty much anything Japanese because of reliability. Good example of the care the take when building their cars just look at Nissan's GTR! I'd still buy Vauxhall too. My 1st car was an Astra and some maybe dull but they've always been reliable for our family and now the hot ones look the part and have the power to match. (The VXR Range)

Also I'm going to Skoda for my next car. A Fabia vRS

heard of this a couple of times. both times it has been a ABS sensor has been damaged. no fault shows up as its still showing as live. if you load up the diagnosic reading for the abs sensors they show that the whell isnt moving. Not sure if this is the cause of them all though

Yeah he was saying that it could be loads of things. Many believe it's just a dodgy bit of code somewhere in the system.

Please don't laugh :embarrest:.

I have never driven any other car but VW golfs :embarrest:
For me it is about looks, power, and fucntionality, it has to be a daily car, a family car, a tansporter, understated and a good cruiser and able to put up a fight at the traffic lights :D

French, Italian defintely a no-no, I won't even consider.
Seat, Skoda etc... not enough to sway me away for VW.
Korean etc.... not enough class.

That leaves the Japanes. Toyota, maybe for a younger man.

Subaru, Mitsubishi (swindon women drive them ). Sicne I live in Swindon I have to consider Honda as it is in my face and I work next to their factory. I looked at the type R, looks ok, powerful, modern and utlra reliable, but compared to Golfs they look bulky to me and the interior plasticy.

I'd rather have the golf (R32 or the new R36, or the EOS <--- , or the new Scirocco).

that is it.

I can't beleive how many blinkered people are on here, I for one would not dissmiss any make of car, who would have thought 15 years ago that skoda would be so good now. if i would choose a make it would be vw, very overrated imo.

totally agree here mate but would say vw arent overrated there just way over priced they are good cars but so are the rest in the vag group like stated above

I think we are all influenced by a predjudice against certain makes. Sometimes it stems from a bad experience or the percieved social status of the car. Its certainly turning out to be an interesting thread;)

I would give any car serious consideration though, but there are a few I would not feel comfortable owning as in my previous post.

I feel that now with VW's you are now paying for the name. As I said before while I can get the same engines and toys in a Skoda or SEAT I won't buy a VW as with both Skoda and SEAT you get the same stuff but for less.

Oh and there are also rumours that the new Skoda Superb will have the same engine as the Passat R36.

So that's another VW I won't buy :p

Also a good example of the saving between the manufacturers:

My uncle recently bought a VW Golf 2.0 GT TDI 170bhp, ex demo with all the gadgets for 20k which is very nice.

You can get a brand new Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0 TDI with the same kit for under 18k. I've also seen 6 month old ones for £14999
