What do you consider high mileage these days, Different for petrol and diesel? Howabout a Mondeo Diesel 2007 with 142k ?? one owner and full ford history? Thank you

It's high but my old escort had 165k on the clock and ran perfectly. It's not all about mileage, it is how it has been driven. If it's motorway miles not really to much of a problem. However, if lent to a wannabe 18 year old racer with bugger all control....steer clear :)

My bora diesel engine is still fine at 136k, don't see any reason why it couldn't do double, but things like shocjs, spring, bushes do wear out inevitably and need replacing.

As long as it's been serviced you should be ok. If I buy a petrol I consider anything over 70k miles as high and for diesels I put this figure up to around 110k miles.

I think because of the way engines are built these days and fuel technology engines last a lot longer and cope with higher mileage eassier!

Properly serviced and driven sensibly (eg. No high revs high load from cold) most cars should clear 250,000 miles with ease. The problem with buying one is that you don't absolutely know the history. But mileage is no reason to dispose of a car you already own.

I would probably avoid cars over 150,000 but as HDi has said, most modern cars will easily hit 250,000 miles providing they are serviced correctly and maintained.

Well I own it now along with 4 other slighty broken cars, A 2007 mondeo zetec 2l 140 6 speed, it's nice but I think my 52 mondeo would withstand a lot more interior abuse. (The 52 feels stronger all round)

i had a ford escort before i got my focus.and it had 300000 on the clock 1.6 zetec could not fault it quiet at tickover still pulled well on motorway no smoke from exhaust.it did have full service history at ford though which does help.

My cousin had a passat that was 15 yrs old when he sold it.
He'd owned for 10 of those. 2.0 Diesel 20v with mileage at 300,000+ and still going !!

if you want to talk high mileage for petrol engines then volvos are king my v70r has 210000 miles on and is running 311bhp and 353lb ft torque and looks great

Volvo cars are renknowned for easily absorbing monster mileages. I truth I think many quality cars will do so. Perhaps it's more to do with the stereotypical Volvo owner's attitude to servicing and maintenance.

not really its bulid quality, on a ford 100k seems high but on a volvo 200k will be the same. a volvo holds the world record for the highest miles

A Ford Mondeo Estate at over half a million miles sold for an exceptional price at a sale staged at British Car Auction (BCA) event in London recently. Among the cars on offer, the 2004 04 Ford Mondeo Estate TDCI LX Estate in silver was notable for its recorded mileage of 532,491 - the highest mileage car BCA has seen in recent times. Following some fierce bidding it sold for £825!

that is so obvious that one considers mileage definetly and diesel does give it.........and this is also dependent on the driving style....

Diesel engines have incredibly tight tolerances and the fuel rail pressure is near to insane. Naturally aspirated petrol engines are far less likely to fail catastrophically.
