Thinking of getting a type II VW Camper... they're 1600cc petrol carb fed engines.... apart from putting twin carbs and a quad exhaust on, what else can be done for some extra juice ?

Try - high compression pistons, crank grind and polish - engine balancing - adding a turbo. Whatever you do make sure you get the ignition timing right - this is critical.
