Hi all
im really hoping someone can help here
i have a 106 gti 1.6 J reg
it use to be a 1.4xsi
i do not know if its a mk 1 or mk2 gti engine
i do not know if its a 1.4 or 1.6 gear box
i need to replace both drive shafts and dont know what to order or look for
How can i sort this
what shafts will fit what?
thanks
Simon

wouldnt be surprised if the gearboxes are the same anyway just the gearing that would be different. easiest way i would say if you cant find out for sure would be to pull one off and take it to a decent motor factors

Thanks for the reply
i was trying not to have to lug them about
i was wondering if something like a 106 diesel set would fit
sometimes they have many cars that use the same parts
i need both o/s and n/s shafts
just need to know what i need or can use

Can you get the serial number or part number from the gearbox, this is the crucial point.

Plus its worth noting if they broke then there is a mismatch there somewhere and new ones will probably still break again.

The Saxo ones may well be suitable for your application here, again the gearbox serial or part number will help narrow down your choices.

Hi
Thanks for that info
i will try to get them tomorrow
the shafts are not broken just the joints are not good

will get the detail asap

Thanks so far

Simon

Hi
ok i have found some numbers on the gearbox
12ES1
These numbers are on the end plate of the box near where the drive shaft locates

are these of any use to identify what the box is????

I do hope so as this is driving me mad

the long shaft is aprx 32.5 inches long
21 splines at the wheel end 22 at the gearbox end with a 13inch mid section

the shorter shaft is 25.5 inches long
21 splines wheel end 22 at gear box end with a 6.5 mid section

i believe they both have the flat type bearing face not the tapered type

All help will be useful thanks
Simon

I have some news

The box has the following codes on 20CC12

So now all i need to know is what does this mean and what Shafts can i use from a Pugeot or citroen?????

I think the shafts have the flat bearing face not the tapered type and one has an abs ring the other doesnt???

Heres hoping
Thanks
Simon

Hi guys, ex-ade300 here, ive got to replace both drive shafts on my MG zs diesel turbo, now my problem may well be the g/box driveshaft barings, are they a taper fit or as is my luck pressins,& if so does that mean i have to take the g/box out & take it to an engineer.??????
