i thought if it ran lean more power was produced at the expense of temps to the point of melting pistons

I know lean engines run hotter but I wasn't sure that this made more power. That is interesting I think I need to do some more research on this subject.

Lean running does not increase power delivery. Although leaning off an over-rich mixture will correct an under-power problem.
