There must be logic in it as most people with a turbo car upgrade to a larger front mount intercooler.

there is and there isnt, you could fit a poorly diesigned large intercooler or fit a well designed smaller one and get the same inlet temps.

the biggest problem is a larger intercooler increases the volume that the turbo needs to compress so more lag before full boost
