tuning of mazda323 model 2000

Hi there and welcome to the site - nice to have you along.

What engine does it have? Any what do you want to get out of it and how much are you prepared to spend?

Seems a little quiet in here! the 2.0 standard does about 33mpg combined as the manufacturer says, 130BHP 0-60 is about 9 to 10 secs - what would I spend on the engine? well depends on the benefits of acceleration increase and fuel consumption saving, would be nice to have more power lower down tbh - it does seem a little lazy for a 2.0

Hi Shao and welcome to TorqueCars. Its nice to see another 323 owner along. I'm doing some Mazda articles so hopefully this will translate into more members. Thanks for joining and sharing your expertise. Are you a 323 owner then?

Yes Wayne - had mine since July on 53 plate, seems like a nice car with no probs since then as of yet (me touches wood rapidly).
Recently discovered the extra kick it has at 5500 revs upto 6000 and abit which I find odd and a bit too high up as you really dont want to be ringing its neck that much regularly :D hence my last post about be nice to have that power a lot lower. Hows the audi?

I love the Audi. I know what you mean about the high power band in the Madza, Honda also tend to hide the power way up the rev range. In my A3 the power comes on from 2000rpm (peaks from about 3000) and keeps pulling right round to 5000rpm. Its a bit like having 2 cars - an economical round town car and a weekend fun car.

It just depends where you keep the revs. The handling is also spot on so in its standard form I was impressed. It is also really easy to mod and with a few hundred spent I can take the power to over 200bhp or 350bhp with a KO4 turbo. I researched the car carefully and the shortlist was a 1.8 VTEC civic or the Audi and the Audi won.

Ok - possible full service on the way soon. Am I right in thinking that if you put on a specialist airfilter or induction kit they're not much use if you dont increase the outbound as in exhaust, cat etc, and then you have to modify the ECU to increase the amount of fuel squirted in to add to the additional air being driven in - now dont feel like changing my exhaust yet as it aint knackered and the car is only 4 1/2 years old - so is there any point in putting induction kit/specialist air filter kit on yet without doing the rest? phew hope you catch my drift!

If you add a panel air filter the cars standard settings will supply sufficient fuel to give a better mid and top end. For a full induction kit you are right that you should also do the exhaust for the best effect although it will still sound great. You wont need to change the ECU though for just breathing mods (it helps on a Turbo engine though).
