Torque Converters

How efficient would you say that Torque converters are? Anyone here got any experience of drag racing an Auto with a Torque Converter?

A torque converter provides a variable gear ratio and acts as a an automatic clutch. i believe that it is more effecient at low rpm as engine gains speed the increase in torque is reduced and latter there is no increase in torque. i dnt no auto box so well
