So, I had a friend borrow my 3000GT and when I got it a few day latter, while on the road, it began to run rough.

Then, while looking at the car for the rough running, fire sported out of the Rear Exhaust with very hot bits of metal.... parts of the metal look like it blasted from a turbo, maybe the rear turbo?

Still runs rough, but Turbo does not hold its compression, the meters are all dead.

Any Ideas?

Yep, sounds like the turbo shat itself. You'll likely need to take things apart to confirm and rebuild or replace.

If metal parts from a shattered turbo, probably a turbine, has entered the engine then I'd be surprised if no other damage has occurred, it usually destroys the valve seals and scores pits or scratches the cylinder walls.

I'm guessing there is no catalyst on this car, or that would have been wrecked.

An from your title I would say no, fuel additives do not destroy engines, the problem is usually there and just waiting to happen. When people add additives they tend to rev harder and this is what shakes and destroys a weak engine.
