The "RAT" look!!!

I quite like the rat look, it takes the sleeper concept one step further! (Actually it's not the look that I like but the concept of a car that looks like a real banger but which really goes quite well!)

I guess you have to define 'looks good'. It's a reaction to the over the top, never driven on a damp day, if at all, styling.

A friend bought a large American 1950s Dodge pick up. A little dented and a lot of surface rust but otherwise sound. Inside the cab was as built and very worn. The paint, original, was now matt brown.

As he was trailering it home (no tax or MOT) he remembered that there was an American car meet at North Weald in Essex, so, at it was on his way, he thought he would pop in to see if there were any bits on sale for ghis truck. He parked up in the spectators car park and went off to look around.

When he got back he discovered that a restored version of his Dodge was parked next to his. There was a crowd around the Dodge, however they were looking at his rather than the pristine one! Once you have seen one restored or modified truck you have seen them all but a standard truck is unusual. He didn't get away for another hour.

what looks good bout a rusty old banger but i do have a mate who did buy an old escort to rat it out but we talked him out of it thank god

Does absolutely nothing for me I'm afraid :sad2:
I remember going to the Peterborough Modified Nationals in 2010 representing TorqueCars on a stand. There was this guy in the crew who had a RAT look car (Will not name the car or the owner, bless him!) But suffice it to say, that when he went off to get a burger, I moved my baby 2 cars further away from him just in case it caught something :embarrest:

I do like the rat drag cars. Outside - rust, bad paint, badly finsihed scoops held on with pop rivits, etc. Underneath, powerful engine and sorted suspension. Highly amusing to see them blow the doors off similar cars that look superb. The expressions on the faces of the losers are worth it alone :)

I like proper old school rat bikes for the same reason, chopped tatty looking frame, battered fuel tank & gaffer tapped seat but with a high power motor painted black nailed in. :amuse:

I hate the look. It's either a pretty decent sleeper or an excuse because the car is just a bucket. Not a fad I shall ever follow...

I'm still not a fan of the Rat look. The latest trend seems to be just one or two rusty panels on the car, usually a bonnet or roof.

I must be too late for the link as it only takes me to a fresh search. Not a fan of the rat look either tbh, just looks like people that can't afford/be bothered to do things properly.
