Steering rack replacement??

Has anyone replaced the steering rack from an e36 with a z3 rack? If so, what benefits or drawbacks are u experiencing. Im looking for an increased fun factor for my car. I have a 318ti hatchback. From what ive heard a lot of enthusiasts back in the day used to do that mod. I haven't heard of it much anymore. Did something end up being wrong with it? Just curious before I decide to look into it any further.

is a steering rack something that would go bad or not really? Asking because theres a z3 in the junkyard over here, I ca go grab the xbrace and steering rack off of it.

They are pretty reliable and solid, just check it over before you fit it and grease it up. If boots are split or it's started corroding i'd leave alone.

Is it worth the time and money it will take for what it gives you? If it were me and I needed to replace the old one, or got to a point when I'd stripped out the old one anyway to get to something else I would look into it, but I wouldn't just create a job for the sake of doing it.
