Snow foam clean

All the proffesional detailers use this way to clean cars, never actually done it myself though

i know a few lads who use it. and i must admit there cars are always mint. one is a profesional detailer though. so thats to be exspected. the others have all got ocd lol were there cars are concerned. never heard any one slate it. i just use the cosovans five quid and jobs a good un! !!

Sweet.

I'll look into it and find out! Need a washer first though! I'm sure Halfrauds sell a cheapish one.

a cheapo washer isnt recommended for the snow foam. i used to use a cheapo rac one when i 1st got mine. 100ml of snow foam topped up with hot water to the ltr mark and id get the car covered in a poor foam.
changed to a higher flowing washer - from low 200lph to 440lph and what a difference i can no go round the car 3 times and a much thicker foam.

back to foaming itself, its more a prewash apply the foam and leave for as long as possible mines gives me around 15 mins. then pressure wash off. itll take off alot of the surface dirt but you will still need to go around with a wash mitt to clean it properly.
i use it every time when washing now as it removes the majority of the dirt - giving how often my cars washed it means i hardly have to use a mitt now

Okay, I'll invest in a decent one then. Cheers for the guidence.

I can't wait to give this a try-seeing as my car was involved in the dust storm, it's covered in dirt!

dont be shocked when you find out its not as good as you expect it to be. remember its a prewash so wont remove everything but it will help soften the dirt thats still on the car.

Also if your cars well protected with a decent sealant then chances are your dwelling times wont be long enough as the foam wont stick to the sealant.

if you look at a photo of mine the front glass was protected with gtechniq g3. a few months prior to this clean. it had been worn off the windscreen due to the wipers but you can see the foam running off the window as it just wont stick to it

Oh I see... I believe a lot of the paint protection had worn off now, so it should have a better result. Time for a respray me thinks ;)

davalav couple of photos for you. didnt take any to start with as never thought about it until i started cleaning.

15 mins dwell time while i went round the wheels then pressure washed off. will it was wet it still looked pretty clean. the results after being left to dry

just noticed you cant see it well on the small picture but the areas that "look" clean on it are still dirty on the larger one although not as bad as parts that i missed with the pressure washer. car was aloth worse than that as it had been down basically a farm track running a mate home the other day
big picture in the link

after a second snow foam, pressure wash then being washed with a mitt i ended up with this

and the rinse bucket - hense why its a recommended to use the 2 bucket method

that bucket was just from the bodywork, wheels have their own bucket for cleaning

Big differnce there then! Looks good. Is snow foam expensive? Infact, could you get it from most DIY shops? B&Q etc...

Cheers thats taken something like 8hrs of work with the polisher, and needs to be lightly done again as a few light swirals have appeared even with me taking time with washes

snow foam specialist cleaners or online sellers in the main cant say ive seen it in the likes of a DIY store.

stuff im using was £20 for about 20 ltrs as the guy didnt like it much did cost him £90. looking at autosmarts actifoam when i run out. my guy gave a price of £51 for 25ltrs so not too bad - downside is they only do 25 or 205lt drums so cant get a little to try.

cleanyourcar.co.uk prices start around £15 for the cheap stuff going up to £30 for the dearer ones - all in 5ltr bottles
and autosmart have franchises all over uk quick google turned up an essex one
http://www.iessex.co.uk/profile/70533/Braintree/Autosmart/
thing is you really need to go in and see them as they are franchisees then prices can differ between them.
if you do use autosmart - and i love the products i have from them - then also get
tardis - strong tar and glue remover, one of the best on the market.
smartwheels - alkaline wheel cleaner that can be diluted to suit your needs. i have a 3:1 mix which they recommend and a 10:1 mix for lighter cleaning.
and the ever important G101 -all purpose cleaner. use it to help strip off old waxes, clean carpets mats and the rest of your interior

does get expensive as they are only available in 5ltr containers, but the G101 and smartwheels will last ages. if a couple of you go in for them then you can split the cost at least.
both the tardis and smartwheels were around £18

^^ Wow...

I'll keep that in mind mate. Once I pass my test I am going all out on my car.

Just a quick question.. When waxing, will the G101 literally strip the wax completely? will it take the laquar off?

no a strong solution of APC will strip off most waxes. to take the laquar off you need to use alot stronger chemicals or a very high cut polish and pad combo to remove laqaur.
ive used a mix of light and med cut polishes with finnesing, polishing and wool mops and would estimate that ive a fair amount of laquar left.but you need a PTG to work out how thick it is even then you really need a good one for it to twell you how much is in each layer.

if your looking at getting the car in tip top shape then i suggest you do alot of reading on the detailing world forum a mass of information on there

Not sure if I'll ever get round to washing the beast myself PG, but that sure was an interesting read about snow foam, thanks ;)
