should an older car be kept original?

I love old cars that are kept original but also love old jap cars that have had a bit of work done to them.

for me it would depend on the car and how old it is

(awkward aint i lol ;))

I'm a bit of both. My Calibra has had shed loads of stuff done to it but looks totally original on the oustide. The only thing i like doing is the wheels and ride height as far as changing the looks other than that, keep it original.

It depends on the car. If it is nice looking then keep it looking standard but by all means fit modern mechanicals underneath.

Breaking down and non starting is not very nostalgic IMO!

Original bodywork, highly modded engine and suspension. Nobody wants to p*ss about with carbs.

My mates just broken his RS Turbo before completing it after spending 5-years fully restoring it. Only needed prepping and spraying! With the proceeds he's bought a mint Mk2 Escort 1.6 Gear with an ST170 engine on throttle bodies, RS2000 gearbox and Omex running 216bhp and 189lbft of torque, standard bodywork can't get traction in 1st 2nd or 3rd in this weather on the narrow minilites  Pics to come soon!

i do like the look of more older cars but as most people have said so far fit modern mechanicals engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes. so you have the looks and reliability and fun

Anything pre 80's should be preserved anything after this should be Old Skooled!

i prefer to keep my old VW's original ish. wheels and ride height get changed, but thats about it externally. im an engine kinda guy, like to watch peoples faces as i fly off down the road in a bog standard looking 20year old golf leaving them in a cloud of tyre smoke :)

yes old cars should be left as they are

new ones play away but old ones i am talking pre 80 should be cleaned up and anything replaced but no mods

If any car has performance of any kind in it, then it should be kept as original
because modifications will slowly erode away what ever the original designers thought and put out. New designers will change some parameters that will effect the overall
performance, the original is lost.

Good point. But on the other hand, If cars HAD to stay original by law, it would then make it very difficult for younger drivers or people with not so much cash, to be able to enjoy quicker or more stylish (in their own minds of course as not all tuning/styling is to everyones taste, mine included).

This is why I like to moddify but be very careful with exterior mods as my take on this is why change the looks of a car if it can't perform aswell? Or at least if the mods dont actually effect the characteristics of a car such as what you see in F1. I know thats over exagerated but the body kit of F1 car does whats supposed to if this makes sense, where as a whale-tail on Saxo wont do anything but slow you down and make you use more fuel, oh and look like an idiot lmao.
