Restricted/Limited Honda

Just did a search for you & as far as I can tell the restriction in the JDM cars is electronic & a re-map is the most straight forward way to remove it. There is mention of using a Vtec controller to overcome the same problem it's not clear how that works out. :)

So I unpluged the speed sensor & that took the restrictor off but without it there's no speedo & it won't go into v-tec. So I plugged it back in.

Found this on ebay:
SPEEDO CONVERTER/DELIMITER HONDA INTEGRA/PRELUDE/CIVIC

It would seem that the speed sensor which tells the limiter when to cut in, is also tied into the v-tec system.

If anybody has tried one of these devices on a v-tec I would appreciate any info...

What kind of chip?

I found these: Speedometer Delimiter & KPH to MPH Converter on SVASpeedos.co.uk & on Ebay.

The speed sensor which they splice into controls when the vtec kicks in.

These devices are only £30 but I would appreciate any info from somebody who might have tried them.

I personally wouldn't buy an eBay chip. You're entering into a world of unknown. I've heard success stories about eBay chips, but I've also heard horror stories about them. It seems to be just pot luck if you get a good one.

I was actually thinking of buying one from 'SVASpeedos'. Unfortunatly I'm not sure if there is anybody there as there has been no response to my emails or phone calls.

Anyway, as soon as I get it sorted I'll post my results here...There's sure to be someone ells with a restricted imort out there.

What he says ^ :) have heard some terrible horror stories about chips from the bay! The bad is way behind the good on this one i'm afraid!

Unless you have a burning desire to be on first name terms with your local mechanic?

I strongly suggest that you avoid the bay on this, and do some more indepth research on the subject to save you much heartache and pain ;)

Are you UK based mate? If so I know some Honda specialists that will be able to help you.

You can give Hond-R a call (Oxford based) on 01235 530055 or TDi North (Warrington) on 0800 0196055. I would personally reccommend Hond-R as I used to take my Honda Civic to them and they are top blokes.

best way is to pick up a chipped p28 ecu they are fully programable with different maps ex. more hp, higher rpms, rev limiter is disabled change when vtec engages mostly plug and play .
