Have you ever put a car in storage? How long was it for and did it survive the experience.

My mother put her old Daihatsu SportTrack into storage for nearly 18 months. Apart from a ceased pully which cost no more than a few quid to replace, it survived absolutely fine.

Never done it, but what are the precautions? I gather it's not a good idea to leave it parked with the same bit of tyre at the bottom all the time, so jacking it up seems to be what most people do. Likewise, when resurrecting it I've heard it's a good idea to turn the engine over by hand as this is less of a shock to dry piston rings that may have 'set' in that position, rather than have the starter motor give them a rude awakening. Of course, this is pretty easy if jacked up and in top gear (as long as one driven wheel is now touching the ground of course!)
